GMB’s Alex Beresford breaks silence as Piers Morgan confirms return to ITV show

Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford has taken to social media ahead of his return to the breakfast show, just hours after Piers Morgan announced that he would also be making his comeback after nearly four years.

Beresford, who has been on paternity leave, tweeted: “After two weeks paternity not knowing what day of the week it’s been, this gonna be an interesting get up for GMB. Sleep is overrated!”

He attached a photo of his alarm clock set for 3.45 AM ahead of his early morning wake-up for the show.

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan surprised viewers with his own announcement, revealing that he would be making his first return to Good Morning Britain since his dramatic exit in 2021.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “BREAKING: It’s been nearly 4yrs (1,453 days to be precise!) since I departed ⁦GMB rather hastily… but tomorrow morning, for the first time, I’m going back. I’ll be on with ⁦Susanna Reid and Ed Balls at 8.15am.”

The timing of both announcements has not gone unnoticed, with some social media users speculating that Beresford’s tweet was a subtle nod to Piers’ return.

One commenter wrote: “Not a touch of co-incidence you post this under the guise of being a new Dad, shortly after Piers Morgan announces he will be there at 8.15am..posting for attention & likes is overrated.”

Another added: “You called it.” A third joked: “Make him walk off again, that’d be great…”

Piers Morgan’s original departure from Good Morning Britain in 2021 came after a heated on-air debate with Beresford over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During the discussion, Beresford criticised Morgan’s dismissal of Markle’s mental health struggles. He hit out at the presenter, saying: “And I hear Piers say William has gone through the same thing but, do you know what, siblings experience tragedy in their life and one will be absolutely fine and brush it off and the other will not be able to deal with it so strongly and that is clearly what has happened with Harry in this situation.

“He walked behind his mother’s coffin at a tender, tender age in front of the globe. That is going to shape a young boy for the rest of his life, so I think we all need to take a step back, and I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme.”

“And I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her…”

This led to Morgan abruptly walking off set live on air, before ultimately leaving the show permanently.
