Meghan Markle brushes away ‘haters’ in ‘pleased’ reaction to twerking video

Meghan Markle is said to be “pleased” with the reaction to her bizarre twerking video she shared last week.

The 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex posted a clip showing her and Prince Harry dancing to mark the fourth birthday of Princess Lilibet.

The video, recorded in 2021, showed Meghan and Harry in a maternity ward delivery room awaiting the imminent birth of their daughter dancing, and even twerking, to the tune of Starrkeisha’s viral hit “The Baby Momma Dance”.

“Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do,” the Duchess captioned the post that divided opinion across the royal world.

Despite considerable backlash, a source close to the Sussexes has revealed that Meghan is “pleased” with how the video landed.

“In the UK everyone’s reaction has been a bit prudish but everywhere else, particularly in America and especially with young people, it has been a huge hit,” the insider told the Daily Mail.

“Meghan doesn’t care about the haters in Britain calling her vulgar. Americans thought the twerking video was hilarious and relatable,” they added.

As a result, the Duchess’ team is said to be celebrating the video’s global circulation as a major “win”.

The source explained that they believe the buzz around the twerking video “can only boost sales” for her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

“Her new products are marketed at Americans and not at the UK market,” the insider explained.

“Meghan wants to connect with Gen Z which demands viral moments. She doesn’t care about the UK because that’s not where the money is.

“She could therefore wave away the ‘certain standards’ expected by British royal fans.

“Americans don’t care. To us it’s a soap opera,” the source concluded.

Regardless of the rationale, it is hard to disagree that Meghan’s dancing video has more than achieved the “viral” status she was apparently seeking.

As of June 8, the Instagram reel has accrued a massive 40.7 million views in the mere days since its release.

It dwarfs the view count of her previous record, the announcement of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which was watched 27.7 million times in the 15 weeks since going live.

Even with its success, Meghan has not abandoned more tame social media posts as he shared videos and pics from a family trip to Disneyland on Friday.

The post featured Prince Harry, 40, alongside their children Prince Archie, 6, and Lilibet, whose birthday fell on June 4, as they enjoyed the California amusement park.

“Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!” the Duchess captioned the post, which was set to Peggy Lee’s “It’s a Good Day.”

Throughout the footage, Meghan maintained the family’s privacy by obscuring her children’s faces or covering them with hearts.
