Kelly Clarkson has been slammed for admitting that she spanks her children if they misbehave.
The 41-year-old singer made the revelation during an interview with Atlanta Radio station 94.1 back in 2018 but the clip has recently resurfaced and become a hot talking point online.
“I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into. I don’t mean hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking,” the talk show host explained.
She then went on to admit that she also disciplines her daughter in public if necessary, saying: “That’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public because then people are like, they think that’s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking.”

The ‘Because of You’ singer also talked about her own experiences with physical dicipline, stating that despite being spanked by her parents as a child, she’s still a “well-rounded individual with a lot of character.”
“My parents spanked me and I did fine in life. I’m from the south y’all so like, we get spankings,” she said. “My mom would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal’s office and give permission for her to spank me.”
Clarkson is a doting mom to her two kids, River Rose, eight, and Remington Alexander, six, who she shares with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
During the interview, the musician also added that she warns her daughter before disciplining her and believes it has actually improved her child’s behavior.
“I’m like, ‘Hi, I’m going to spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now, this is ridiculous,’ and honestly it’s really helped.
“She doesn’t do that kind of stuff as often,” she added.

After the clip resurfaced on Twitter, Clarkson’s controversial parenting technique became a discussion point, with some slamming the ‘Since U Been Gone’ hitmaker while others didn’t think it was that big of a deal.
“I think kelly clarkson is one stupid bleee bragging on twitter how she spanks her 1 and 2yr old to show tough love she better pray to god that cps dont show up and take her children away,” wrote one user while another added: “kelly clarkson lost all my respect the moment i read that she spanks her children.”
However, others rushed to the star’s defence, with some even admitting they experienced worse than just a spanking growing up.
“Why the f*** are people mad @kelly_clarkson about spanking her children LMFAOOOO. Y’all became soft. She spanks not bruises and f****** abuses. I’ve gotten my ass whooped so much times by my parents #AfricanBeatings.”
“Kelly Clarkson said she spanks her children and now she’s being canceled – society is sad – spanking is different from beatings and beatings are different from ass whoppings,” added another.
A third even “eye-rolled” at the hate saying: “So y’all mean to tell me… y’all are mad that Kelly Clarkson spanks her children? *GIANT EYE ROLL*”
Clarkson herself seems to be aware of the divisive nature of spanking children as she admitted to 98.9 The Buzz radio station that it can be a “tricky” thing to navigate.
“The tricky thing is when you’re out in public and people think that’s wrong or something. I find nothing wrong with a spanking,” she said in the interview.
