A source claimed that Meghan feels “betrayed” as a new documentary includes heavy criticism of the Sussexes.
Meghan Markle is reportedly “hurt” after the airing of a documentary about the Sussexes last week.
The show, titled ‘Harry – The Lost Prince’, questions Prince Harry and Meghan’s work as charity ambassadors.
Many of the people involved in the documentary were highly critical of the couple, including a fellow resident of their hometown Montecito, California.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, a source said of Harry and Meghan: “Both Meghan and Harry feel the show is yet another one-sided take down of them and just want it all to stop.”
They added: “It’s like they can’t escape their past and are still being judged on things that happened over five years ago but they know it gets people talking and makes money.
“Meghan feels hurt by a lot of people – but especially her neighbours, who she feels have betrayed her by telling people this, rather than offering friendship and support.
“It was hard for her to make this move and have the eyes of the world on them, so she needed some friends, but obviously she was quite guarded because of what she’d been through.
“Meghan is very wary of getting close to people and trusting them and this documentary has confirmed she was right.”
In the show, one of their neighbours Richard Mineards discusses Harry and Meghan’s life in Montecito, but accuses the couple of not contributing much to the area.
He said: “I personally don’t think that Meghan is an asset to our community… She doesn’t really go out or get involved with the community. Harry has to a certain extent, because he’s quite jolly… but Meghan doesn’t seem to get seen anywhere… And you don’t see him either.”
Harry and Meghan moved to the US to live a more private lifestyle having struggled during their time as a part of the Royal Family.
A former soldier in the British Army, Ben McBean, once shared a flight home from Afghanistan with Harry.
In the German documentary, he criticised Harry for his criticism of the Royal Family in his book Spare and the Sussexes’ Netflix series.
Mr McBean said: “I just thought, with him kind of whinging about his family and he was saying something about his brother pushing him over or something like that, I was just like, ‘Mate, just leave it out’.
“You and your brother had a little fisticuffs…but family’s family, you know.
“If one of my friends fell out with his partner and started posting things on social media and saying my ex is this and that, I’d have told him to shut up as well.”
When Harry announced that he would be writing a memoir, he said the book would reflect “the highs and lows” of life in the Royal Family and be “accurate and wholly truthful”.
The Sussexes have been contacted for comment.
