‘Best Dad’ Richard Gere, 74, Poses with Rarely Seen Sons in Pics Showing His Fatherly Side

Richard Gere, who is celebrated for his iconic Hollywood roles, shows a different side in Father’s Day photos shared by his wife, Alejandra Silva, on Instagram. The four photos feature their three sons—James, Alexander, and Albert—with blurred faces. Richard smiles with Alejandra and Albert, holding a certificate.

In the next picture, the “Pretty Woman” actor smiles as he hugs his son, wearing a “Jamie” shirt as they bond over a milkshake at a restaurant.

However, what was meant to be Alejandra’s sweet tribute to her husband turned sour for some netizens due to the boys’ blurred faces, which sparked frustration.

“Why bother to share if you’re going to black out the faces of the kids? Just tell your husband you appreciate him and don’t post publicly…so ridiculous,” one critic questioned.

Amid the naysayers’ reactions, Richard has always been private about his family life, but he shared a rare look at his life as a father in an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain.

He revealed his routine with his family, “The truth is we don’t go out much. We have three small children. An 11-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 4-year-old.”

Adding to the family’s routine, Richard mentioned that they are typically asleep by 9:30 in the evening. If they do watch something, it’s on their large home television. Alejandra clearly adores Richard’s well-rounded personality.

In a 2019 interview, Alejandra highlighted his remarkable qualities, “He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love!”

She also shared that her husband would make her feel fortunate and valued. Every day, Richard asks what would make her happy and tells her how important she is to him.

Despite the couple’s preference for privacy, Richard and his wife made a rare public appearance at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with the actor’s 24-year-old son, Homer James Jigme Gere.

Stepping out dressed to the nines, Alejandra adorned a stunning black floral print gown while her dashing beau and stepson rocked classy black suits with matching bow ties and white dress shirts. Although all three of them were a sight to behold, fans were particularly captivated by Homer’s charming aesthetic.

Homer not only inherited his good looks from his mother but also had a heart of gold, according to his father. Richard once described the 24-year-old Brown University student as “very sweet, very sensitive,” and “very smart.”

“He’s smarter than me, stronger than me, faster than me, taller than me, better than me. He’s great. I love him,” Richard said while discussing Homer in a 2019 interview. When it comes to his son and family, there is nothing the “Shall We Dance?” actor wouldn’t do for them.

“Your family is more important than anything,” asserted Richard in a past interview. During the same interview, the interviewer asked him whether or not he takes his family into account before signing on to do a project.

“My film decisions are mostly mine, but I’m very careful about not being away from my son, Homer James Jigme Gere, for very long. So […] I talk to him about it, and if there is a problem, I don’t take up the project. And I have done that,” Richard previously disclosed when Homer was younger.

Interestingly, Richard often lets Homer influence his decision to take film jobs. However, Homer remains only modestly aware of Richard’s many movies and the extent of his stardom.

Even though he doesn’t know much about his father’s roles, the artistic gene runs strong in the Gere family. In addition to his studies, Richard revealed that Homer had started to explore the world of acting and filmmaking, sparking a new shared interest with his father.

Richard boasted about Homer’s filmmaking and acting interests, “He’s been writing and directing little movies, so we have this new thing in common.” Homer is also a music lover. According to Richard, his early musical inclinations have evolved since “hitting the piano when he was a kid.”

Richard Gere, who started as a musician before venturing into acting, confirmed that Homer had studied piano for two years before quitting. His dad then encouraged him to try his hand at another instrument which led to him playing the drums, though that too, was short-lived.

However, Homer is “now a vocalist in a punk band,” after he started playing with his musical group, showcasing his diverse creative talents.
