Alison Hammond to take year off from TV as she celebrates milestone birthday

TV presenter Alison Hammond is turning 50 next week and the This Morning host is planning to take a year off from her TV commitments to go travelling around the world.

This Morning’s beloved presenter, Alison Hammond, is gearing up to celebrate her 50th birthday next week and has hinted at taking a year-long break from her TV duties. The effervescent star, who’s currently gracing our screens with her ten-part travel series, Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked, alongside her son Aidan, has expressed her desire for some downtime in the near future.

In a chat with Heat magazine, she revealed: “In the next ten years, I want to travel the world, I would love to take a year off and just go and travel. Not just yet, but one day. I need to see the world before I die!” Her latest BBC series sees her exploring a different side of Florida, one of her favourite destinations, as she and Aidan embark on a medieval adventure, speed across the Everglades in an airboat, mingle with the Miami Dolphins, and discover life beyond the state’s theme parks.

Speaking about the show, she said: “You also get to see the love between Aidan and I,” adding that spending time with her teenage son was really special. “With a teenager, they don’t really want to spend time with their parents, so the fact that I got to spend time with him was really special. Aidan is the one person who really makes me laugh. He’s a chilled out carbon copy of me. My biggest achievement is Aidan. I feel proud that I have been successful in bringing him up to be a nice human being.”

Ahead of the show’s premiere on Monday 27 January, Aidan opened up about his experience working with his mum on screen. He said, “I really enjoyed it, especially the car rides,” and added, “There was just so much laughter. But also, loads of arguments – mainly about directions! She always thought she knew where she was going, and I’d be telling her she was going the wrong way.”

As Aidan celebrates his 20th birthday, which coincides with Alison’s 50th, he’s making waves as an aspiring DJ, reports the Mirror. Last year, he rocked a one-hour set at Camp Bestival in front of an ecstatic crowd of 20,000, with his number one fan, mum Alison, cheering him on from the front.

On his Instagram account Aidan boasts about being a DJ, and you can spot him in snaps with the iconic Fat Tony. In a heartfelt post, he said: “Thank you so much for such a amazing day @fattonysfullfat and thank you @dj_fattony_ for giving me a chance and letting me warm everything up. Hopefully be seeing you guys again in a few weeks (And thanks mum for all the videos @alisonhammond55).”

Chatting on the Spin Justice podcast, Aidan discussed how his mum has been a pillar in his burgeoning career, to which she lovingly said, “DJing was always his passion. So I said, ‘You know what, in life, you should do something where you love it.'”
