Harry and Meghan are on a 16-day tour of four countries in Oceania. Both are constantly present at events. Since Kensington Palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant and will welcome her first child next spring, the Duke of Sussex has always shown his care and concern for his wife whenever they appear together.

Although they always held hands, Harry still led his wife on every journey. “This is standard British royal protocol, allowing royals to walk or stand a few steps ahead of their fiancés, such as the Queen with the Duke of Edinburgh or the Duke with the Duchess of Cambridge. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no exception. They respect this precedent,” said etiquette expert William Hanson.

Harry and Meghan have been following the tradition since their first day in Sydney last week. Prince Harry also preceded his wife on a visit to Australia’s Cockatoo Island and to Suva, Fiji, on October 24. They also did the same on October 25 in Tonga at a dinner for the King and Queen of Tonga.
