BBC viewers slammed Wynne & Joanne: All At Sea, which aired on Monday (27 January). The show starred Wynne Evans and Joanna Page, with the duo setting sail to explore the coast of south Wales.
The 30-minute programme aired after it was revealed that Wynne made a sexualised remark to Janette Manrara during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch in Birmingham earlier this month.
BBC viewers were left unimpressed by the broadcaster’s decision to still air the programme, with many taking to social media to issue complaints, with some even insisting they will “never watch” anything involving Wynne again.
“Just a thought BBC, but maybe this Wynne Evans #AllAtSea prime time claptrap could have been postponed for a while?” one unhappy TV viewer wrote on X, while a second said: “Wynne Evans…get him off my b****y telly.”
A third fumed: “What on earth are you doing showcasing Wynne Evans tonight?” before adding: “I will never watch anything with Evans involved. #BBC1 #WynneEvans.”
Following the reports on Monday, Wynne issued a statement, in which he said: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
The scandal made headlines on Monday, and was discussed on the morning’s daytime TV shows, including ITV’s Lorraine. The host made a comment about Wynne’s behaviour during the show, even issuing him a warning.
Presenter Lorrainer Kelly bluntly said: “Do better, mate.” She went on to add: “The former opera singer has been in the headlines, though, after being overheard making a crude sexual remark towards It Takes Two presenter Janette during a photocall. I shan’t say what he said, suffice to say, it’s really not on.”
A spokesperson for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios added: “We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour. We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints.”
Wynne competed in last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing with professional partner Katya Jones. The pair came in eighth place.
